PROJECT SHAKA IS GOING GLOBAL! 🤙🌎
What began in Hawaiʻi as a program based on a simple gesture grew into a movement featuring the SHAKA, A Story of Aloha film 🎥, the Shaka License Plate and getting the Shaka declared Hawaiʻi’s official state gesture. And yes, education, community programs and Acts of Aloha too.

We dubbed it “Project Shaka” and it showed us what can happen when aloha is put into action.

But now, we’re taking it to the world.

Project Shaka is becoming GLOBAL ALOHA — a movement born in Hawaiʻi and now shared everywhere.

Through films, education, experiences and community action, we’re working to bring more kindness, connection, service and aloha into everyday life.

Project Shaka isn’t disappearing. It’s still our local Hawaiʻi program—and the spark that started it all.

But now, from Hawaiʻi to the world 🌺🌎

While doing some research for THE 100TH, Seeds of Aloha, we came across a TV show called Gallant Men with a 1963 episode entitled “One Puka Puka.” The episode features Big Island born Poncie Ponce (Hawaiian Eye) playing Lt. Joe O’Hara and Honolulu born Frank Atienza (Blue Hawaii, Star Trek) playing Cowboy in the 100th INF BN (SEP), WWII. Lt. O’Hara thanks Cowboy for saving him from being killed by a German soldier and Cowboy throws a 🤙 shakey Shaka 🤙 back, consistent with his real life Honolulu upbringing.

In our previous film, SHAKA, A Story of Aloha, the earliest recorded Shaka we found was Elvis Presley’s 1973 Aloha from Hawaii “Hana Hou” Shaka 🤙 thrown during the first global satellite broadcast ever.

This one predates Elvis’ by a decade. More importantly, it’s thrown before Lippy Espinda’s early 1970s use in his TV show and/or used car sales ads.
